RESILIENCE: A Contemporary Dance Workshop

K Williams

Join us this August for RESILIENCE: a contemporary dance workshop. All levels welcome, ages 10-100.
August 15 - 19, 2022, noon - 2p.m. $225

SMAPA is thrilled to announce a new dance workshop this summer with Heather Robles. In this dance workshop, we will focus on:

  • -Honoring our personal story

  • -Sounding our inner landscape

  • -Fortifying deep listening and courage

  • -Locating innate resilience in our body and history

  • -Joy as resistance

All participants will have the opportunity to create and take home a resilience map at the end of the week. Nourish your body and spirit in this week of gentle, strengthening contemporary dance technique followed by guided choreographic and improvisational explorations of RESILIENCE.

Heather Robles (she/her/ella) is a nondisabled Latinx queer cis woman who lives on the stolen land of the Lenape and Canarsie peoples in what is now called Brooklyn. She is the Executive Director of the NY Dance & Performance Awards, The Bessies, founder and Artistic Director of Alma Dance Company, a certified birth doula at Our Birth Doula, and Policy Development Consultant at New Yorkers for Culture & Arts. A Brooklyn-based choreographer and performer, she has worked with many artists including Yvonne Rainer, Sidra Bell, Pavel Zûstiak, Nathan Trice, DANCENOISE, André M. Zachery, Buglisi Dance Theater, Soluq Dance Theater, Alison Cook Beatty Dance, Fredrick Earl Mosley, and Suzzanne Ponomarenko Dance. She is on the board of Renegade Performance Group, Brooklyn Dance Festival, Sharron Miller’s Academy for the Performing Arts, and a member of Eva Yaa Asantewaa’s Curatorial Advisory Team at Gibney. Heather is also a dance educator, teaching artist, producer, and advocate for mental health in the dance field.

New Online Convenience Fee

Sharron Miller

Dear friends,

This year, SMAPA paid much more in convenience fees for online transactions than ever before. So starting in June, SMAPA will add a 3.5% convenience fee to all online transactions.

In-person payments will not be charged the additional fee.

While it is never an easy decision to add new fees, we are hopeful that with your understanding and continued support, this change will help SMAPA survive as a not-for-profit arts organization in Montclair.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at info@smapa.org.
